Eco Hydro Energy Limited, a private company has developed a new, revolutionary technology in the production of 'green' energy.
The founders have personally made large investments both in Brazil and elsewhere into this technology which, to date, has consumed many years of computer- and engineering work. Until now, all of the research and development work has been carried on in secrecy assisted in confidence by highly respected Brazilian engineering universities. Now the development work has been successfully completed and proven. Also world-wide patents are in place. Eco Hydro is ready to make its technology globally available. The technology will shortly be unveiled at a news conference in Brazil.
The floating power station consists of an electricity generating device which is anchored in an existing river system. Flexible rotor blades are mounted on an axis which rotates, providing a turbine effect. The flexible rotor blades are distanced from each other and are arranged along the rotor axle in staggered rows. The blades also extend gradually outwards in relation to the axis. The effect creates a very high level of torque at the axle. The rotating assembly, without multipliers, directly drives conventional electromagnetic generators, providing electric power for immediate local consumption or for onward transmission to an existing distribution grid.
Traditional power generation has required huge capital investment in infrastructure and equipment which is highly intrusive in both, the construction and operational stage. Also, conventional generating methods are extremely unfriendly to the environment whether by producing noxious and harmful emissions, leading to pollution and global warming, or through severe damage to river systems and surrounding areas.
Similarly, many evolving technologies are meeting resistance due the environmental concerns and lack of demonstration that they are sufficiently reliable, sustainable and economically sound. The eco hydro system provides an extremely low cost opportunity for power generation. As opposed to traditional hydro-electric plants, there is no requirement for highly invasive construction processes as the entire system can be towed into position and, indeed, its location can be quickly changed as required.
Therefore there is no population displacement, nor loss of traditional lands. The activity of the flexible rotor blades actually provides oxygenation of the river, which can actually repair damage done to the rivers chemistry and physiology by other human activity. This is especially beneficial for fish populations, the organisms upon which they depends for food and aquatic plant life. The system's operators benefit from both, low capital and also operation costs. There are no land-based construction costs.
The manufacture of the equipment occurs in a manufacturing plant environment distant from the location. Once operational, the eco hydro system does not require the purchase and transportation of expensive, carbon fuel, nor does it require maintenance of a high cost land-based infrastructure. The scale of power generation can be increased simply through addition of system units, limited only by available water flow.
Similarly, the entire system can be quickly and easily moved to a new generating location as required. A major benefit of eco hydro's technology is its flexibility. For example, the use of hydrogen power depends on highly economical hydrogen production sources which are also environmentally friendly. Eco hydro can answer this need.
Pilot plants have now operated successfully in Brazil and the company is moving forward to demonstrate its successes globally and preparing itself for world-wide distribution. Considering not only the needs of developed countries, but also areas of the world which lack adequate power generating capabilities, the eco hydro floating power station may be regarded as one of the most significant advances in recent decades to benefit mankind.
